Requirements:

Quizzes (10% = 2 x 5%)

A total of 2, 30 minute, WebCT, online, open book quizzes will be given during the course of the quarter, each available for taking starting midnight Sunday through the start of class on Tuesday. The quiz questions will be based on the materials covered in the lectures and readings since the last quiz or exam. The questions will consist of true-false, multiple-choice, fill in the blank, and matching.

Exams (50% = 2 x 25%)

A total of 2 examinations will be given during the course of the quarter. Each exam will consist of true-false, multiple-choice, and matching questions. The content will include everything since the last exam, including materials from both lectures and assigned readings. The entire class period will be available for the completion of each exam.

Final exam (40%)

The final examination will consist of true-false, multiple-choice, and matching questions. The content will be comprehensive and cover all the topics and materials covered throughout the course.

Experiment participation (up to 1.5% extra credit)

Participation in up to 3 hours of experiments (1 hour = 1/2%) OR up to 3 papers thoroughly answering all the “Review Questions” for a chapter covered in class (1 chapter = 1/2%). Experiment participation is scheduled through Experimetrix: http://experimetrix2.com/ucsd/
