This class is designed to provide students with hands and experiential practice in the conduct of research whose main goal is to generate conclusions and procedures that might be directly applied to various real-world issues. The class is unique in several ways.

1. Students work in teams. This aspect of the class provides students with first-hand experience working in group settings. Questions concerning leadership, responsibility, breaking down a big job into smaller tasks, communication, group cohesion, and such are experienced directly.

2. Students are involved in the design of key elements of the research project. Students have input into aspects of the design of measurement tools, stimulus material, and instructions.

3. Students are required to analyze the data that they collect using state-of-the-art exploratory and hypothesis testing software, e.g., JMP.

4. Students are required to write a report that is equivalent to a journal article. In some cases, the report is a group project.

5. Grading is based on the quality of the research project that is completed by the students.

A class syllabus is available.
