We will be examining issues in education in Psychology 87. You will find reading assignments for this seminar posted here. 1. Read a NewsHour discussion of education and how to improve it. 2. You can find a list of NewsHour programs discussing a wide range of educational issues. 3. No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB): A recent Federal Program voted into effect during the current administration whose stated purpose is to improve the quality of education in the US. 4. California’s recommendations regarding how to teach reading to kindergarten through 3rd grade. 5. Read about US Supreme Court deciding on the constitutionality of affirmative action. 6. The National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) maintains data on a large number of “indices” of various aspects of education in the US, e.g., student/teacher ratios. 7. Secrets of the SAT. Read and watch a Frontline report on the SAT establishment. |
