My Canon Powershot S30 RAW Workflow
Rough but effective!

Color characterization:

1. Wolf Faust IT 8.7 color target (www.targets.coloraid.de)
2. dcraw -3 -w -b 4 *.crw (www.cybercom.net/~dcoffin/dcraw)
3. XLprofiler (www.aim-dtp.net/aim/calibration/xlprofiler)

yields ICC/ICM color profile: CanonS30dcraw-3-w-b4.icm

RAW conversion:
1. dcraw -3 -w -b 4 *.crw
2. Photoshop CS
  a. assign profile
  b. levels 0.02% 0.02%
  c. unsharp mask 300,1,1
  d. convert to sRGB
  e. convert to 8 bit
  f. save jpeg maximum quality

Printing:
